👩 Mom Blog Flipping
Website broker Chelsea Clarke shows how buying content can be more valuable than buying traffic in her article How I Made $16,800+ Blog Flipping A Site Without Traffic.
Chelsea bought a mom blog for $500, split the content into 7 different sites and started selling them as non-revenue generating starter sites (a category on Flippa). She even used some of the content to create digital products to better monetize the sites she was keeping to build.
The BEST way to publish large-volume original content quickly is to buy a website that already is filled with great content.
I think this is such a genius strategy and reminded me of when Spencer Haws from Niche Pursuits bought a profitable mom blog back in 2018 that was making $10K/m. I featured a mom blog in last week’s Deals email.

😱 Spared But For How Long?
Digiday reported that major publishers that have their own deals with Amazon have been spared from the recent commission rate cuts:
Major publishers who do business with Amazon seem to be spared from the cuts — for now. According to people familiar with the matter, rates have remained the same for commerce publishers including CNN’s Underscored, The New York Times’ Wirecutter, and Vox Media/New York Magazine’s The Strategist.
But large commerce publishers have been reminded to not rely on affiliate income, with one source stating:
We’re in a moment that the entire economy is up in the air and we have no idea what the future is going to be from a consumer standpoint and from an affiliate industry standpoint. We don’t know if the current affiliate structure will last forever.

He discusses the need to diversify revenue streams, why commission rate isn’t everything, how to set up direct affiliate partnerships, and why recurring programs are best (we both like to promote software).
🍌 Don’t Follow Me
Following on from the SEMrush story last Monday, Mark Preston on Twitter asked John Mu to confirm Google’s stance on guest posting:
John’s reply was potentially very surprising, depending on how you previously read the Google Guidelines:
As such, according to the man at the Big G, all guests post links should be nofollowed, paid or not. To stay in line with the search God, sites should use rel-sponsored / rel-nofollow on any links where the content has been provided. I wonder if SEMrush will offer niche edits instead now.
